The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it remains a beautiful bride in hot demand, firmly positioned to win future elections and lead Nigeria toward a brighter, more prosperous future.
The party National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, said in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja in reaction to the claim by the President of the Senate, Sen. Godswill Akpabio, that “the PDP is dead.”
Mohammed noted that Akpabio during a recently project inauguration in Abuja claimed that the “PDP is dead,” urging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to “allow what is dead to remain dead.”
He said that contrary to Akpabio’s claim, the growing momentum around PDP clearly demonstrated that the party had continue to broaden its national appeal and consolidate its position ahead of future elections.
These according to him include the recent decision by former minister of Communication and Technology, Prof. Isa Pantami, and Iyabo Obasanjo to identify with the PDP.
Mohammed also noted that the party’s impressive victory in the Adamawa State Local Government elections in Adamawa State and its triumph in the Rivers State Senate by-election.
Others according to him are the steady influx of political leaders and stakeholders from Katsina, Jigawa, Imo, Oyo, and several other states into the PDP.
“These developments stand in sharp contrast to the claim by the President of the Senate, Akpabio, that the PDP is “dead,” urging the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike to “allow what is dead to remain dead.”
According to Mohammed history teaches that political parties derive their strength, legitimacy, and longevity not from the verdict of their opponents but from the confidence, support, and trust of the people.
The party spokesman said that for 27 years, the PDP had weathered political storms, overcome difficult moments, and consistently emerged stronger, noting that this season of renewal will be no exception.
He said that the greater irony was that the very project being inaugurated where Akpabio sought to write the political obituary of the PDP, was conceived, executed, and delivered under the supervision of a distinguished member of the PDP.
He said that Wike presently on political loan and rendering invaluable service in the APC administration, remains proud PDP member and the most outstanding and best performing Minister in the present administration.
“If anything, the occasion was a celebration of the competence, capacity, and leadership that the PDP has consistently produced over the years.
“We understand the anxiety within the ruling party over the growing momentum of the PDP as it consolidates internally, expands its support base, and reconnects with Nigerians across the country.
“Such anxiety is understandable, given the increasing confidence that Nigerians continue to repose in our great party,” Mohammed said.
He said that the party was confident that, at the appropriate time, Nigerians would once again entrust the PDP with the responsibility of providing purposeful, inclusive, and people-oriented leadership for the country.
Commending Wike for his commitment to delivering critical infrastructure and public services to residents of the FCT, Mohammed said, that the minister’s performance further reinforces the enduring culture of competence, excellence, and service that the PDP has always exemplified in government.(www.primerise.com)
