Former British Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Tuesday announced his decision to step down as Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras.<\/p>\n
Starmer, in a statement, said: \u201cNow is the right time to step down as MP for Holborn and St Pancras and hand the baton over to a successor.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he would now focus on \u201cinternational affairs including defence, security, trade and technology in a fast-changing world.\u201d<\/p>\n
Starmer\u2019s resignation will trigger a by-election in the London constituency.<\/p>\n
He said that whoever emerged as the Labour Party\u2019s candidate for the seat would have his \u201cfull support and backing\u201d.<\/p>\n
Starmer resigned as leader of the governing Labour Party in June.<\/p>\n
