The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) is set to introduce V-Pass facial recognition technology to transform domestic air travel.<\/p>\n

The system will enable passengers to verify their identities digitally, reducing reliance on physical identification documents at airports.<\/p>\n

FAAN\u2019s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Mr Henry Agbebire, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Lagos.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Agbebire said the initiative was developed in partnership with Verxid Technologies Ltd. following strategic discussions between both organisations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He said deployment plans, security measures and passenger experience improvements were key areas discussed during the meeting.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
FAAN\u2019s Director of Commercial and Business Development, Ms Adebola Agunbiade, said V-Pass reflected the authority\u2019s commitment to technology adoption.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n
\u201cThe introduction of V-Pass underscores our commitment to leveraging technology,\u201d Agunbiade said.<\/p>\n

She said the system would improve passenger facilitation and strengthen aviation security across Nigeria\u2019s domestic airports.<\/p>\n

Agunbiade explained that travellers would receive secure digital identities through a one-time enrolment process.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

She said Nigerian passengers would register using their National Identification Number (NIN) and facial biometric capture.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

Foreign travellers, she added, would enrol using international passports through Optical Character Recognition and biometric authentication.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Passengers would undergo biometric verification before accessing restricted airport areas and again before boarding flights.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

Agunbiade said the dual-verification process would eliminate impersonation and prevent unauthorised access.<\/p>\n

She added that the system would curb identity fraud and enhance confidence in passenger authentication among security agencies.<\/p>\n

\u201cPassengers will have the option of using self-service kiosks or receiving assistance from FAAN personnel,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Agunbiade said electronic gates would also be introduced to automate access to controlled areas.<\/p>\n

She explained that E-Gates would reduce queues and improve passenger movement within airport terminals.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

Beyond passenger processing, V-Pass would provide airlines with secure access to flight schedules and passenger information.<\/p>\n

Agunbiade said airlines would also access passenger manifests and boarding statistics through the digital platform.<\/p>\n

She disclosed that FAAN would operate a Central Management System to monitor passenger movement.<\/p>\n

The system would generate operational analytics and support future integration with other airport technologies.<\/p>\n

FAAN and Verxid Technologies assured passengers that data privacy remained a major priority under the project.<\/p>\n

They said the system complies with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) requirements.<\/p>\n

The organisations stressed that passengers\u2019 biometric data would not be stored on kiosks or handheld devices.<\/p>\n

Ahead of deployment, FAAN and Verxid plan extensive public awareness campaigns across various communication platforms.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

The campaigns will cover television, radio, social media, airport announcements and airline communication channels.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

FAAN said V-Pass formed part of its digital transformation agenda for safer airport operations.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n

The authority aims to build a smarter, safer and more efficient ecosystem for domestic travellers.<\/p>\n

FAAN disclosed that a live \u2018Proof of Concept\u2019 demonstration and technical assessment would precede full deployment.<\/p>\n

Developers said biometric verification would take less than 30 seconds after passenger enrolment.<\/p>\n
