An Iyaganku Magistrates\u2019 Court in Ibadan on Thursday ordered a complainant, Bernard Elijah, to perform 30 minutes of community service for appearing before the court in indecent attire.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Elijah appeared in court wearing ripped jeans.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Magistrate, Mrs Oluwaferanmi Raji, condemned the dressing, describing it as inappropriate for a court environment.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
She ordered Elijah to undertake 30 minutes of community service to serve as a deterrent to others.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
\u201cIf everyone, especially the youths, learns to dress decently and conduct themselves properly, society will be a better place,\u201d Raji said.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Elijah, through the police, charged a 23-year-old man, Opeyemi Lawal, with alleged phone theft.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The Prosecutor, Insp Elisha Tellang, alleged that Lawal stole Elijah\u2019s itel phone valued at N120,000.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tellang also alleged that the defendant stole another phone worth N185,000 belonging to one Miracle Emmanuel.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
He said the offence contravened Section 390(4a) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Lawal was arraigned on June 15 on a count of phone theft, to which he pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
The court had adjourned the case until July 16 for hearing.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
When the case came up, Tellang informed the court that a relative of the defendant had approached the complainants for settlement.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
