Not fewer than 20 persons have died in a road crash involving three vehicles and a motorcycle at Hawan Kibo community of Riyom Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau.<\/p>\n
Mr Adelaja Ogungbemi, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Jos.<\/p>\n
Ogungbemi, who said that the crash occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Friday, attributed the incident to break failure.<\/p>\n
He explained that 18 of the deceased persons were passengers in a Yankari Express Toyota Hummer Bus traveling to Abuja, adding that the two others were on a motorcycle.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe crash occurred after a Howo truck suffered brake failure and rammed into a Toyota hummer bus, Toyota Corolla and motorcycle<\/p>\n
\u201cThe deceased persons are all male adults. Other persons involved in the crash are being accounted for,\u201dhe said.<\/p>\n
Ogungbemi advised motorists to desist from speeding and ensure regular vehicle maintenance to prevent avoidable crashes.<\/p>\n
He also urged drivers to inspect their vehicles before embarking on trips, stressing that proper checks could help detect mechanical faults that could lead to avoidable road crashes.<\/p>\n
\u201cVehicle inspection before taking off is very important. Motorists should make vehicle maintenance a priority and avoid speeding on highways,\u201d he advised.<\/p>\n
The sector commander commiserated with the families of those who lost their loved ones and urged motorists to exercise caution, particularly when traveling with passengers in their vehicles.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
