Two Employees of Excel Microfinance Bank were on Thursday arraigned in a Kaduna Magistrates\u2019 Court for allegedly stealing N5.7m.<\/p>\n
The defendants, both residents of Goni-gora, Kaduna, were charged with conspiracy and stealing.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 26, at Sabon Tasha, Kaduna.<\/p>\n
Leo alleged that the defendants, who were staff of the bank, stole N5.7m belonging to the bank.<\/p>\n
He said the defendants were arrested when the theft was uncovered during an auditing of the bank\u2019s accounts on July 2.<\/p>\n
The prosecutor said that during police investigations the defendants confessed to have committed the crime.<\/p>\n
Leo said that the offences contravened the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.<\/p>\n
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.<\/p>\n
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500, 000 each with one surety each in like sum.<\/p>\n
Emmanuel said that each surety should be a blood relation of the defendants.<\/p>\n
He said that the sureties must be gainfully employed and must present evidence of three years\u2019 tax payment to the Kaduna State Government.<\/p>\n
