ADC senatorial candidate condemns attack on obi\u2019s convoy in Benue<\/p>\n

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) Senatorial Candidate for Kogi East, Chief Peter Ameh, has condemned the attack of the party Presidential Candidate, Mr Peter Obi\u2019s convoy in Benue.<\/p>\n

Ameh in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja described the attack as “ridiculous and unacceptable” action against the opposition.<\/p>\n

He called on the relevant authorities to investigate the incident transparently and ensure that those responsible for the action were held accountable, regardless of their political connections.<\/p>\n

\u201cI strongly condemn the roadblock and intimidation reportedly carried out by individuals in Benue, allegedly with the backing of those in power.<\/p>\n

\u201cNo citizen should be subjected to harassment, threats, or unnecessary obstruction on a public road.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur roads belong to the people, and political influence must never be used to create fear, inconvenience, or a sense of lawlessness,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ameh added that those actions violated the fundamental rights guaranteed under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).<\/p>\n

He bird that Section 41(1) provides that \u201cEvery citizen of Nigeria is entitled to move freely throughout Nigeria and to reside in any part thereof\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2018Section 40 further guarantees that \u201cEvery person shall be entitled to assemble freely and associate with other persons, and in particular he may form or belong to any political party, trade union or any other association for the protection of his interests,\u201d He said.<\/p>\n

Ameh said if those actions were indeed sponsored or encouraged by anyone connected to the state government, \u201cthen that is deeply troubling and must be thoroughly investigated.\u201d<\/p>\n

He described public office as a responsibility, not a licence to intimidate citizens or empower thugs.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Benue State Government must openly condemn this incident and ensure that Mr Peter Obi\u2019s visit to Benue proceeds without any distractions or further interference.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must continue to speak up for peace, accountability, and the rule of law.<\/p>\n

\u201cBenue deserves leadership that protects its people and respect our constitutional rights, not actions that harass, intimidate, or humiliate our citizens,\u201d Ameh said.<\/p>\n
